Tinubu forms committee to oversee Grid Asset Management Company

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated an 11-member committee tasked with facilitating the seamless establishment of the Grid Asset Management Company Limited (GAMCO).
The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, formally inaugurated the committee on behalf of the President on Friday in Abuja.
Gbajabiamila noted that the committee plays a vital role in achieving President Tinubu’s objectives for reforming Nigeria’s power sector.
The formation of the committee follows the Federal Executive Council’s approval for the creation of the company during its meeting on Wednesday.
Gbajabiamila explained that the proposal for GAMCO is aimed at accelerating solutions to persistent challenges such as stranded electricity, inefficient grid management, and transmission difficulties within Nigeria’s power industry.
“The proposed creation of GAMCO represents one of the transformative initiatives introduced by Mr President and his administration in the crucial power sector.
“We have gathered here today to inaugurate the Committee on the Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO), whose primary objective is to enhance and transform electricity generation, particularly within the grid and transmission segment,” Gbajabiamila stated.
The Chief of Staff urged members of the committee to work in line with the President’s vision behind the establishment of GAMCO and to faithfully carry out the responsibilities assigned to them.
He further disclosed that the committee will undertake a detailed review of existing legislation, policies, regulations, and institutional frameworks governing Nigeria’s electricity value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and market operations.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives also explained that the committee will assess the implications of the Electricity Reform Laws (2025) and related unbundling structures, particularly regarding asset ownership, management, and regulatory supervision.
