Why I Left PDP For APC – Obasanjo Explains

Former senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has revealed that she decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) because its members were the ones who maintained contact with her during the more than 15 years she stayed away from active politics.
She made this known on Friday while speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.
The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo explained that she had not remained in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 2011, following her unsuccessful attempt to return to the Senate.
She further stated that after that period, she attended a leadership programme at Harvard University and later concentrated on pursuing her PhD.
“I have not participated in the PDP as an active member, or even as a member at all, since 2011. I don’t really consider it as moving from one party to another because at that time I didn’t belong to any party.
“Another reason is that during the period I was away, the people who stayed in touch with me and the individuals I was communicating with are all members of the APC. I cannot recall anyone from the PDP as it currently exists, or even the ADC as it is emerging, reaching out to ask how I was doing.
“So that was really the key factor for me. Of course, politics is involved, but politicians are still human beings.
“My decision was largely influenced by that personal connection. People reached out to me and kept in contact, not to persuade me politically, but simply to express concern and say, ‘We care about you, we appreciate you as a person. How have you been?’” she said.
