UEFA confirmed on Sunday that the 2026 Finalissima between Argentina and Spain has been called off.
After much back-and-forth, the two teams couldn’t agree on terms for the match.

The cancellation was due to the ongoing political unrest in the region, making Qatar an unfeasible host for the event scheduled on March 27.
Despite efforts from UEFA and Qatar, the timing couldn’t work out.
UEFA expressed disappointment but acknowledged Qatar’s ability to host top-tier events.
There was an initial plan to hold the match in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Argentina rejected it.
A second idea of a two-leg match was also declined by Argentina.
A third proposal involving a neutral venue in Europe was also turned down.
In the end, Argentina’s suggestion to play the match after the World Cup didn’t fit Spain’s schedule, and the game was ultimately cancelled.
