Lamido Pushes for Peace Talks with Wike’s Caretaker Committee

Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa State and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on party members to embrace the caretaker committee proposed by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a move aimed at healing deep divisions within the party, Lamido urged PDP members to prioritize unity and work together to rebuild the party’s strength.

Lamido made the appeal during a Ramadan Iftar event with PDP officials and members in his hometown of Bamaina, Jigawa State, where he described Wike as a political strategist who capitalized on the leadership vacuum after the expiration of the National Working Committee (NWC) term, positioning himself as the central figure to lead the party through turbulent times.

“Wike is truly a sharp operator,” Lamido commented, “He saw the gap, acted fast, and established the caretaker committee, and by the time the NWC’s term ended, Wike had created the only structure still standing.”

Despite the internal strife and disagreements within the PDP, Lamido stressed the importance of dialogue and urged members to reach out to key figures, including Wike, in the spirit of national unity, brotherhood, and reconciliation.

“Even if some members may not agree with Wike or like his approach, we must invite him to the table for the sake of the party, for the sake of reconciliation,” Lamido concluded.

The call for peace and unity comes at a time when the party’s future seems uncertain, with internal rifts threatening to tear it apart; can Wike’s caretaker committee pave the way for PDP’s healing, or will division continue to reign? Only time will tell.
