El-Rufai Claims ICPC Forced Him to Cease Political Activities for Release

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of attempting to force him to withdraw from political activities in exchange for his release from detention.
El-Rufai’s allegation was detailed in a 30-page criminal complaint filed before a court against ICPC Chairman Musa Adamu Aliyu and four other officials.
According to the filing, ICPC officials informed El-Rufai during his detention that he could only be freed if he ceased participating in politics.
The complaint states that El-Rufai was told by ICPC officers, acting on the authority of the chairman, that his release was conditional on stopping all political activities.
El-Rufai argues that this demand infringed upon his constitutional rights.
The complaint includes an affidavit detailing repeated statements from ICPC officials, warning that continued political involvement would extend his detention.
The allegation is central to Count Six of the complaint, which accuses ICPC officials of wrongful confinement with intent to compel, as per the Penal Code.
El-Rufai is asking the court to investigate the actions of the ICPC officials, claiming their conduct represents an abuse of office and an unlawful attempt to limit his political participation.
The ICPC has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
