Igboho: Why Nnamdi Kanu Is Still Detained — Sowore

Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has claimed that Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention is largely due to his refusal to accept certain terms allegedly agreed to by Sunday Igboho.

Sowore made the remarks while comparing the political paths of the two separatist figures and their interactions with the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu.

He argued, “Nnamdi Kanu is in jail today because he’s different from Sunday Igboho. If Kanu were like Igboho, he would be campaigning for President Tinubu in the Southeast now.”

Sowore further explained, “It’s the same terms they gave to Igboho that he accepted, and Kanu rejected over the last 10 years.”

He added that his recent interaction with Kanu strengthened his belief that the two men are on different political trajectories.

“I don’t know what he will do tomorrow, but the Kanu I went to campaign for in Aba last week—it will be heresy to compare the two of them,” Sowore remarked.

Sowore also criticized what he termed “Amala politics” in parts of the country, a term he used to describe a transactional and self-serving approach to politics, especially in Oyo State.

He warned that Igboho risks political disgrace, comparing him to controversial figures from Nigerian political history.

“Igboho just retired himself into the infamy of the people I mentioned, and his own might be worse because the world community might be coming for him very soon,” he concluded.
