2027: Opposition Faces Tough Challenge in FCT — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stated that unseating President Bola Tinubu in the FCT during the 2027 general election would be “extremely difficult” for any opponent.
He made these comments on Tuesday in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects in satellite communities.
Wike emphasized that Tinubu’s administration has made significant progress with its infrastructure drive, which he believes will boost electoral support.
“It will be very hard for anyone to defeat the president in the FCT,” he said.
In the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) won the FCT.
He defeated Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obi garnered 281,717 votes, while Tinubu received 90,902, and Abubakar came third with 74,199 votes.
However, Wike noted that the current administration has shifted its focus from only developing the city center.
They are now extending development projects to rural and satellite areas of Abuja.
“We were directed to avoid excessive focus on the city alone and ensure that development reaches satellite towns,” Wike explained.
He furthered, “These areas are integral parts of Abuja, and their residents deserve improved living standards.”
He added that the people are pleased with the changes, which reflect positively in the community.
“With these improvements, economic activities will grow, and the quality of life will get better,” Wike continued.
Residents can now live in areas like Kuje and commute to the city within 25 minutes.
“That is the kind of progress we are delivering,” he concluded.
