Bala Mohammed Speaks On Defection from PDP

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed rumours suggesting his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that he remains a member of the party.
The speculation had circulated that Governor Mohammed was considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with reports indicating that the defection could happen this week.
After the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House on Wednesday, the governor briefly addressed the rumours.
When approached by journalists, he declined an immediate interview but confirmed he would speak to Channels TV at 7 pm.
He briefly commented on the rumours, stating, “I have not moved; they said that I have defected.”
Governor Mohammed described himself as an “international figure in politics” and promised further clarification on the matter later in the day.
He also took the opportunity to address the newly sworn-in permanent secretaries, urging them to uphold integrity and avoid corruption in their roles.
“This administration will not tolerate corruption or any act capable of bringing the government into disrepute,” he said.
He stressed the importance of discipline, insubordination avoidance, and remaining neutral in partisan politics.
The governor also emphasized the need for civil servants to mentor younger colleagues and foster reforms based on ethics and professionalism.
He assured retirees that his administration was committed to paying outstanding gratuities, noting that payment of 13 years of arrears had already begun in January 2026.
Justice Talatu Musa Umar, the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, administered the oath of office to the newly appointed permanent secretaries.
