Altruism 2027: Fagbenro-Bibire Declares Interest in Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Reps Seat, Vows People-First & Effective Representation

Global philanthropist, Honourable Abayomi Fagbenro, widely known as Bibire, has formally declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for the Ibadan Southwest/Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He made this official disclosure in a statement he made available to journalists in Ibadan where he explained that the decision followed wide consultations with party leaders, critical stakeholders, and people from different demographics across the 23 wards that make up the federal constituency.

The selfless politician said the decision to seek the mandate of the people was informed by the increasing calls from the good people of Ibadan Southwest and Northwest Federal Constituency who urged him to offer himself for service in order to contribute more meaningfully to the development of the constituency.

According to Bibire, “I have listened carefully to the yearnings and expectations of the people, and I have decided to answer the call to serve in order to complement ongoing efforts and contribute meaningfully to the development of our communities spread across the federal constituency.”

The Old Boy of Government College Ibadan (1984 Set) further stated that his aspiration, headlined “Altruism,” is premised on selfless service and a clear understanding of the challenges facing the people, saying, “I know where the shoes pinch the people, and I am coming to provide succour and practical solutions that address their most pressing needs.”

The retired US Navy veteran, who revealed that representation at the National Assembly remains an important platform for advancing the interests of the people through legislation, advocacy, and oversight responsibilities that ensure government programmes serve citizens effectively, said the House of Representatives will provide the ideal platform for him to do more for the people as he builds on years of humanitarian engagement across Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency where he has supported several community development initiatives conceived to improve the living conditions of the people.

He noted that innumerable families within the federal constituency have, over the years, benefitted greatly from his different humanitarian efforts like medical outreach programmes, support for widows, empowerment initiatives for small businesses, scholarships for students, distribution of relief materials, and many more too numerous to mention.

Bibire also recalled that his participation in the democratic process began in 2019 when he contested for the House of Representatives seat with the intention of offering purposeful representation to the people of the constituency.

The first-class philanthropist explained that his political journey took a new direction in 2021 when he joined the Peoples Democratic Party in order to complement the developmental vision of Governor Seyi Makinde whom he described as his mentor and a leader whose style of governance, which places the people first in all considerations, remains unprecedented in the history of Oyo State.

He said the governor’s commitment to development and inclusive governance encouraged him to align with the party so that he could support the efforts of the administration while continuing his humanitarian work which had been focused on helping people long before he sought political office.

He added that during the build up to the 2023 elections he stepped down from the race in the interest of unity within the party and supported the eventual candidate while mobilizing support across several communities in the federal constituency.

The security expert established that his decision to contest again was prompted by a desire to build on the current gains recorded in the constituency and take it to greater heights than ever before, saying, “I want to consolidate the progress achieved so far and create more opportunities for our people through effective representation at the federal level.”

The SDGs advocate stated that if elected to represent Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency, he would leverage the platform to advance sustainable development initiatives.

This was as he pledged to place premium priority on legislation and advocacy that will fortify security, improve social welfare, expand access to education, and promote better healthcare services for residents.

The graduate of Strayer University also promised to support initiatives that promote youth empowerment, encourage enterprise development, and attract strategic infrastructure projects that will enhance economic opportunities within the constituency.

The US IT specialist further explained that his legislative agenda would also promote technology driven opportunities for young people, agricultural development, and environmental management programmes that support sustainable development across the communities.

Speaking on openness and accessibility, he said, “effective representation requires constant engagement with constituents, hence, I am promising the people that I will maintain an open and accessible relationship with them by regularly informing them about legislative activities and constituency interventions.”

Bibire, while describing “Altruism 2027” as the foundation of responsible leadership and community advancement, appealed to the people of Ibadan Southwest and Ibadan Northwest Federal Constituency to support the vision of people centred leadership as preparations begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He concluded by expressing confidence that with collective support, the constituency would experience greater progress and inclusive development in the years ahead.
