Crisis Hits Edo APC

Ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections in Edo State, a crisis has erupted in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the alleged imposition of a chairmanship candidate.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, members of the party in Ovia North-East Local Government Area staged a peaceful protest, accusing a party chieftain of imposing Mr. Christopher Enamatoe as the chairmanship candidate.
The protest was led by Concerned Ovia North-East Leaders and youths.
Spokesperson for the protesters, Hon. Luggard Ayenoma, called for intervention from Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Ayenoma claimed that Enamatoe, who is not a member of the APC, should not be considered for such an important position.
He further alleged that Enamatoe had previously worked against the APC during Governor Okpebholo’s election, serving as a media agent for former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Ayenoma criticized the imposition of an outsider as chairmanship candidate, arguing it undermines local representation and sidelines qualified indigenes of the local government.
He added that such a move could erode confidence in the government’s fairness in Ovia North-East.
The protesters called for a halt to the nomination process until it is made transparent, but pledged continued loyalty to the party.
In response, Peter Uwadaie, Edo State APC Publicity Secretary, dismissed the allegations as speculative.
He stated that the party had not yet conducted primary elections and that claims of imposition were premature.
The local government election is scheduled for July 2026.
