Maiduguri Explosions: Tinubu Must Return Home To Confront Insecurity — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday night.

The attacks led to 23 fatalities and left many others injured.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party extended its condolences to the victims and their families.

It described the incident as a national tragedy, affecting not just Maiduguri residents but the entire country.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the people of Maiduguri,” the ADC said.

The party commended the courage of emergency responders and security personnel, noting their efforts to assist the injured and restore calm.

However, the ADC raised concerns about Nigeria’s security situation, fearing that Maiduguri could return to a period of frequent attacks after experiencing some stability in recent years.

“This tragic incident also raises persistent questions about the state of security in our country,” the party added.

The ADC criticized the federal government’s response, stating that national leadership was not fully focused at this critical time.

“It is concerning that President Bola Tinubu is currently abroad.

“Moments like this demand the full and undivided attention of the nation’s leadership,” the statement read.

The party accused top officials of being distracted by politics rather than focusing on security.

“Those charged with protecting the country are focused on politics.

“This is not leadership. It is a dangerous distraction, and it is costing lives,” the ADC said.

The ADC noted the human toll of insecurity, stating that victims are not just statistics.

“They are people’s children, husbands, fathers, and families,” the statement said.

The party also criticized the president’s absence during the crisis, lamenting that “Nigerians mourn and soldiers are being buried” while Tinubu is abroad.

The ADC called for the president’s immediate return to address the situation, stressing that the protection of lives and property must be prioritized over political distractions.

Furthermore, the party suggested that the government should compensate the families of both civilian and military victims as a step toward taking responsibility.

In closing, the ADC warned that the rising insecurity in the country is unacceptable and must be condemned.
