Nigeria Under Siege, Says Peter Obi on Maiduguri Explosion

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has raised an alarm over the escalating insecurity in Nigeria following explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State.
In his reaction on Tuesday, Obi condemned the attacks that reportedly killed several people and injured over 100 others, stressing the increasing security challenges facing the country.
He stated that the bombings in vulnerable areas such as markets and locations near hospitals are a sign that the government is failing in its primary duty to protect lives and property.
Obi established the lack of a strong national response to such incidents, noting that insecurity is becoming normalized rather than addressed with urgency.
The former presidential candidate also pointed to similar attacks in other states, including Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Sokoto, Benue, and incidents within the Federal Capital Territory.
He extended his condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
“The nation is once again engulfed in grief and outrage following the horrific explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, yesterday,” Obi said.
He added, “These tragic events serve as a painful reminder of how far we have strayed from the fundamental duty of governance: the protection of lives and property.”
Obi ended that the silence in the face of such atrocities is concerning, and signals a disturbing normalization of insecurity.
