UCL Round of 16: Chelsea, City, Others Battle for Quarter-Final Spots

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg fixtures are set for a dramatic conclusion this week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the remaining 16 teams will fight to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Eight teams will move forward, while the others will face elimination.

The first-leg results set the stage for intense matches:

Tuesday Fixtures

  • Sporting CP vs Bodo/Glimt: After a 3-0 loss in Norway, Sporting faces an uphill battle at home.
  • Chelsea vs PSG: Chelsea’s 5-2 deficit from the first leg in Paris puts immense pressure on the Blues.
  • Man City vs Real Madrid: A 3-0 loss in Madrid means City needs a monumental performance at the Etihad.
  • Arsenal vs Bayer Leverkusen: With a 1-1 draw from the first leg, Arsenal has a slight advantage at home.

Wednesday Fixtures

  • Barcelona vs Newcastle: A 1-1 draw in the first leg leaves the tie finely balanced.
  • Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid: Spurs will need a miracle to overcome a 5-2 deficit from the first leg.
  • Liverpool vs Galatasaray: Liverpool has a tough task to overturn a 1-0 loss at Anfield.
  • Bayern Munich vs Atalanta: Bayern holds a commanding 6-1 lead after the first leg.

Emmanuel Brown, former coach at TTC Football Academy, shared his thoughts: “It’s the last chance for teams to push through. Teams that lost the first leg are under more pressure to win. Bodo/Glimt’s performance has been impressive, and they’re one to watch.”

Brown predicts teams like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, PSG, Atletico Madrid, and Arsenal will likely progress.
