Fifty-one states, including all EU members, have pledged their support for a new international agreement to set standards on cyberweapons and the use of the internet, the French government said on November 12. China, Russia and the United States did not sign the pledge, reflecting their resistance to setting standards for cyberweapons which are at the cutting edge of modern warfare. Football icon, George Weah, has spoken out regarding the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) ruling on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

CAF recently removed Senegal’s title and handed it to Morocco after the final.

The decision followed a petition from Morocco and was made by the CAF Appeal Board.

According to the verdict, Senegal’s decision to leave the pitch during the chaotic final resulted in a forfeit.

As a result, the original 1-0 win for Senegal was overturned, and Morocco was awarded a 3-0 walkover, crowning them as the new continental champions.

In his response on Thursday, Weah emphasized that football results should be determined on the field of play.

The former Liberian President also urged the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and other relevant bodies to take swift action to ensure that “this injustice is not upheld.”

“We must respect the referee’s authority during the game, and the decision taken after the match should not overrule it,” Weah’s statement read.

“Football should be decided on the field, not altered after the final whistle.”

Meanwhile, Senegal striker Sadio Mane also criticized CAF’s decision to hand Morocco the 2025 AFCON title.
