Russia Accuses Europe of Fueling US-Israel War with Iran

Russia has accused European leaders of complicity in the Iran war, claiming that the United States-Israel operation was partly fueled by their statements.
In a strong statement, Moscow said EU officials and heads of several European countries have attempted to separate themselves from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described this approach as “another blatant twisting of facts” and an attempt to avoid responsibility for the escalation in the region.
Zakharova said it is well known that European authorities have pursued a colonial policy in the region for decades, “cloaking their intentions in demagoguery and outright lies.”
She further claimed that Western governments scuttled efforts to reach a diplomatic solution before America and Israel began their “aggression” against the Islamic Republic.
“They added fuel to the fire and fueled tensions. And now they pretend that it is not their headache. It won’t work,” Zakharova noted.
The spokesperson recalled that in August 2025, Britain, Germany, and France appealed to the UN to sanction Iran over alleged non-performance of its commitments under the JCPOA.
Russia said European countries had no legal or procedural grounds for launching the “snapback” mechanism, “because they themselves regularly violated the JCPOA.”
The federation added that Britain, Germany, and France’s repeated submission of anti-Iran resolutions to the IAEA Board of Governors and the adoption in June 2025 led to the first U.S.-Israeli strikes in Iran.
Zakharova also listed comments from former and current European leaders against Iran, claiming that the creation of “an enemy image of Iran” was a core policy of the European leaders.
She quoted remarks from President Emmanuel Macron, former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ex-UK Prime Ministers Theresa May and Rishi Sunak, ex-French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and ex-German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
On Wednesday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe told U.S. lawmakers that Iran is asking its allies to share intelligence on U.S. military assets in the Middle East.
“The Iranians are requesting intelligence assistance from Russia, from China, and from other adversaries of the United States,” he said at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on worldwide threats.
National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard said any support the Islamic Republic may be receiving is not affecting operational effects, citing the assurance by the Department of War.
