Spain’s PM Sanchez Slams Israel-US War in Iran as ‘Illegal,’ Warns of Civilian Impact

Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, has criticized the ongoing Israel-US military actions in Iran, calling them “illegal.”

Sanchez made these remarks ahead of the European Union summit in Brussels on Thursday.

He noted that the war has caused severe harm to civilians, and continue to lead to widespread displacement.

The Prime Minister further revealed the economic repercussions that are being felt globally, particularly in the Global South.

Sanchez therefore urged EU leaders to present a united front and prioritize diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.

The Spanish leader equally reinforced his government’s stance, stating, “We are against this war because it is illegal.”

He also noted the significant toll on refugees and the economic challenges being faced worldwide.

Earlier in the month, Sanchez firmly defended Spain’s position when US President Donald Trump issued threats after Spain refused to allow American forces to use its military bases for potential operations against Iran.

Sanchez concluded with a call for urgent reforms in the United Nations, and strongly urged the removal of veto power in the Security Council to make it more representative and fair.
