PDP Crisis: Wike Reasserts Dominance Amid Party Turmoil – Abati

Veteran journalist and former presidential aide, Reuben Abati, has stated that Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has regained his influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the ongoing internal crisis.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Abati pointed out that recent developments within the PDP suggest a resurgence of Wike’s political standing, particularly after competing party conventions and conflicting court rulings.
Abati noted the uncertainty over which faction of the party is legitimate, with multiple court judgments, including those by Justices Lifu, Omotosho, and Akintola, adding to the confusion.
“The problem is that the convention at the Moshood Abiola Stadium was witnessed by INEC officials, a 13-man delegation led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” Abati explained.
He also mentioned that despite the ongoing uncertainty, Wike has solidified his position within the party, with growing support perceiving him as the party’s national leader.
Abati said, “Nyesom Wike has established himself as the national leader of the party. It was a triumph for his wing.”
He added that further clarity will come when the Supreme Court rules on the legitimacy of the conflicting factions.
“What we know for sure is that Wike has bounced back, and people now see him as a national leader of the party,” Abati concluded.
