US Issues Urgent Warning to Citizens in Iraq, Lists Iran’s Potential Targets

The US embassy in Baghdad has urgently warned American citizens to leave Iraq, citing intelligence that Iran and its affiliated groups may target US universities and attempt to abduct US citizens.

The embassy’s security alert, posted on X, identified universities in Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah, and Dohuk in Iraqi Kurdistan, along with other institutions suspected of having ties to the US, as potential targets.

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards threatened to strike US universities in the Middle East, accusing US-Israeli strikes of targeting two Iranian universities.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement through Iranian media, demanding an official condemnation from the US government by 12 noon on March 30, Tehran time, to avoid retaliation.

The US embassy alert further warned that Iran and its proxies are likely to continue targeting US-associated entities in Iraq, including diplomatic facilities, universities, businesses, and energy infrastructure.

It also noted that Iran-aligned terrorist groups have targeted commercial airports and hotels frequented by foreigners and may seek to kidnap Americans.

The embassy reiterated the threat posed by rockets, drones, and mortars in Iraqi airspace, urging US citizens to vacate Iraq immediately.
