US Wants Iran’s Oil, Kharg Island Capture — Trump

US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States would like to take control of Iran’s oil reserves, particularly through capturing the regime’s key export center on Kharg Island.

In an interview with The Financial Times, Trump expressed his preference to “take the oil” from Iran, though he noted that some people in the US, whom he described as “stupid,” have raised questions about this plan.

The President’s comments came after the US deployed thousands of troops to the Middle East.

Trump drew a comparison between this potential action and the US’s ongoing efforts in Venezuela, where the US aims to maintain control over the oil sector following the removal of President Nicolás Maduro.

Trump remarked, “To be honest with you, my favorite thing is to take the oil in Iran, but some foolish individuals back in the US question: ‘why are you doing that?’ But they’re foolish individuals.”

The Financial Times report further highlighted that such an operation would likely involve the seizure of Kharg Island, through which much of Iran’s oil exports are shipped.

However, capturing this key oil hub would come with significant risks, potentially leading to more US casualties and extending the conflict.

“Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options,” Trump added.

Despite these threats, the newspaper noted that indirect negotiations between the US and Iran, facilitated by Pakistani intermediaries, were progressing positively.
