Wike Compares PDP Defectors to Peter Obi, Criticizes Leadership Qualities

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has drawn a comparison between those who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Wike explained that, like Obi, who left the Labour Party despite the party’s internal crisis during the 2023 presidential election, these defectors demonstrated a lack of leadership.

Speaking at a National Convention organized by his faction of the PDP on Sunday, Wike stated, “I liken those who defected from the PDP to the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party; they lack leadership traits.”

He further criticized Obi for abandoning the Labour Party during a time of crisis, when he should have stepped up to resolve the issues.

Wike’s faction of the PDP held their national convention on Sunday, despite an ongoing legal case at the Supreme Court challenging the Appeal Court ruling that nullified the Oyo national convention organized by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction, which is supported by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.

Wike has repeatedly stated that the PDP will not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, instead opting to support President Bola Tinubu’s second term, a move that aligns with his appointment as the FCT Minister.
