Easter Tragedy: 17 Lives Lost in Benue Community Attack

At least 17 individuals have been confirmed dead following an assault on Mbalom community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Easter Sunday, according to local residents.
This attack marks another chapter in the ongoing security crisis in Benue, where rural communities have frequently been targeted by suspected armed assailants.
Reports from the area suggest that the attackers stormed the village, resulting in several deaths and the destruction of homes through fire.
While 17 bodies have been recovered so far, many people are still missing, and residents are continuing to search the nearby forests for more victims.
Numerous homes and valuable properties were destroyed during the attack, causing further displacement among the survivors.
A local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed distress: “This is heartbreaking. People were caught unawares. Many are still missing.”
Despite repeated attempts, calls to DSP Udeme Edet, the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, for confirmation were not answered at the time of this report.
