Morocco Shifts Focus to 2026 WAFCON After CAF’s AFCON Ruling

The Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) has finally shifted its focus to hosting the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The federation made the commitment while reacting to the CAF Appeals Board’s verdict that awarded the country’s men’s national team the AFCON 2025 title.

On Tuesday, CAF’s apex legal body overturned Senegal’s 1–0 on-field victory over Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final played in Rabat on January 18.

The panel based its decision on Articles 82 and 84 of AFCON’s regulations.

It determined that Senegal’s walk-off in protest of a late penalty constituted a forfeiture of the match.

Morocco had appealed an earlier decision by CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, which dismissed its forfeiture case against Senegal.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Moroccan FA said it did not challenge the final’s “sporting performance” but to “demand respect for AFCON laws, integrity, and fairness.”

The federation then added that the country “looks forward with confidence” to hosting the 2026 WAFCON and participating in the World Cup.

The 2026 WAFCON was initially scheduled for March 17 to April 3 in Morocco.

However, a few days before the start, CAF postponed the competition to July 25, citing “unforeseen circumstances” and the need to ensure the competition’s success.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are the defending WAFCON champions, defeating Morocco in the final to win a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
