2027 Tussle: Supreme Court to Hear ADC, PDP Leadership Disputes Tuesday

The Supreme Court of Nigeria will hear appeals on Tuesday related to leadership crises in two opposition parties, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The appeal by embattled ADC National Chairman David Mark will be heard alongside that of the factional leadership of the PDP, backed by Governor Seyi Makinde and led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), both challenging decisions made by the Court of Appeal.

The PDP crisis will now be resolved by the Supreme Court, with the Turaki-led faction contesting the appellate court ruling that invalidated its national convention and leadership structure.

The faction argues that allowing the appellate court decision to stand would destabilise the party and has therefore sought final resolution from the Supreme Court.

Mark, a former Senate President, is seeking an order to halt the execution of the March 12 appellate court ruling that impacted ADC leadership, pending the resolution of his appeal.

A hearing notice in Appeal No: SC/CV/180/2026, between Mark and Nafiu-Bala Gombe and four others, is scheduled for April 14. The notice, issued through the litigation department of the Supreme Court, was seen in Abuja on Sunday.

The hearing date coincides with a previously scheduled proceeding before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in a related matter.
