Edo Government Seals Event Centre After Eedris Abdulkareem’s Criticism of Tinubu

The Edo State Government has sealed the Mega Hub event centre in Benin City.

This action came barely four days after rapper Eedris Abdulkareem criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration during a performance there.

The Mega Hub, which also operates as an eatery, hosted the party “Mega Rave: A Night with the Legends” on April 3, 2026.

During his set, Abdulkareem paused to criticize the Tinubu administration.

He described the president as “the worst” in the country.

Abdulkareem accused Tinubu of failing to visit the site of a deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State, despite a heavy security presence.

A viral video circulating on social media showed the rapper mocking Tinubu’s visit to Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang on April 2.

Abdulkareem pointed out that the president addressed politicians and select victims, but did not visit the community where about 30 people were killed on March 29.

The rapper also expressed frustration over the current economic hardship, blaming it on the administration.

He warned that Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters would suffer for their political choice.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Edo State Government officials sealed the Mega Hub.

A video shared online showed the entrance barricaded with red tape, and an inscription on the wall reading: “Sealed by EDSG 7/4/26.”

This action has sparked controversy, with many associating the sealing with Abdulkareem’s remarks about the president.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, who is also a member of the APC, has pledged to deliver Edo State for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

When asked for comments, the Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, denied any political motive behind the action.

Afegbua insisted that the centre was sealed due to security intelligence, not because of the rapper’s comments.

Reports later indicated that the facility has since been reopened.
