PDP Begins Renovating Wadata Plaza National Secretariat

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, has started renovation work at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.
Journalists visiting the secretariat at Zone 5 on Monday observed ongoing painting and other renovation activities as the faction prepares for the resumption of staff.
The renovation work began on Sunday, just a day after the Nigeria Police unsealed the premises and granted access to the Wike-aligned faction.
Barricades that had previously blocked access to the main office building have been removed, although a few police vehicles remained stationed around the premises, with personnel continuing to secure the area.
A party member, speaking anonymously, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that renovations started on Sunday.
“The staff members of the party’s national secretariat have not resumed yet, but the renovation works started yesterday (Sunday). The renovation includes painting, replacing air conditioners, changing office locks and keys, and assigning offices to the new National Working Committee (NWC) members,” the source said.
The party member expressed concern that some staff loyal to the rival Tanimu Turaki-led NWC might struggle to resume work at the secretariat under the new arrangement.
By Monday afternoon, no party officials had yet reported to work at the secretariat.
The development follows Saturday’s announcement by the faction’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, that the police had reopened both the Wadata Plaza national secretariat and the presidential campaign office at Legacy House, Maitama.
The renovation is seen as the first significant physical step by the Wike-led leadership to assert control over the PDP national headquarters after weeks of legal and physical disputes between the two factions.
