Lewandowski Breaks Ronaldo Record
Robert Lewandowski has broken Cristiano Ronaldo’s record as the oldest player to score a hat-trick in UEFA Nations League history after leading Poland to a 6-0 victory over Romania on Friday.
Lewandowski, aged 38 years and 42 days, surpassed Ronaldo’s previous record of 34 years and 120 days, which the Portugal captain set when he scored three goals against Switzerland in the 2019 Nations League semi-final.
The Poland captain opened his account in the 24th minute before adding his second goal shortly after the interval and completing his hat-trick in the 86th minute as Poland secured a comprehensive victory in Group B4.
Poland’s commanding performance was helped by Romania’s early dismissal, with Radu Drăgușin receiving a red card that left the visitors with 10 men for much of the contest.
Lewandowski’s three goals took his international tally to 92 for Poland and gave him his seventh hat-trick for the national team.
The achievement also came during his 170th appearance for Poland, further extending his national record for the most caps in the country’s history.
UEFA records show that Lewandowski is the latest player to score a Nations League hat-trick, joining a list that includes Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Aleksandar Mitrović, Viktor Gyökeres and Romelu Lukaku.
Ronaldo remains the Nations League’s leading scorer with 15 goals, according to UEFA’s latest competition statistics, while Lewandowski’s hat-trick has now added another notable record to his international career.
The Polish striker’s latest feat is particularly notable because Ronaldo remains the competition’s oldest scorer overall, having scored for Portugal at the age of 40 years and 123 days against Spain in June 2025.
Poland’s 6-0 victory also provided a significant boost to their Nations League campaign as the competition moved into another round of group-stage fixtures.
Lewandowski’s performance once again highlighted his longevity at international level and placed him alongside some of Europe’s most prolific Nations League goalscorers.
