How Nigerians Can Overcome Anxiety — Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to overcome anxiety and life’s pressures by embracing daily habits of rejoicing, praying and giving thanks to God.
Adeboye gave the counsel while ministering at the RCCG headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, during a special service dedicated to members of the judiciary and legal profession.
The renowned cleric said he had discovered that the three biblical instructions of rejoicing, praying and thanksgiving could transform the lives of individuals when practised wholeheartedly.
Citing 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, Adeboye encouraged believers to begin each day with joy, stressing that a positive mindset anchored on faith in God could help people navigate difficult seasons.
“When you wake up every morning, rejoice. Praise God. Start your day on a positive note of rejoicing. Forget about the past. Just rejoice. Wake up with joy and allow the joy of the Lord to dominate your life,” Adeboye said.
The RCCG leader also advised Nigerians against being consumed by worries about the future, saying those who trust in God should draw confidence from His past faithfulness.
“If I am not where I am by my ability, why should I worry about tomorrow? He took care of me yesterday; He will take care of me tomorrow,” he stated.
Adeboye further urged people to replace excessive worry with prayer, encouraging them to consistently present their concerns before God rather than allowing challenges to overwhelm them.
“Pray always. Make your requests known to God. Rather than worry over your problems, pray about them,” the cleric said.
He explained that prayer provides an avenue for believers to seek divine intervention in their circumstances and remain spiritually strengthened during challenging periods.
On thanksgiving, Adeboye urged Nigerians to appreciate God regardless of their present situation, warning against allowing difficult circumstances to steal their gratitude.
“In everything give thanks. Don’t allow your circumstances to affect your life. Give thanks irrespective of what you are going through in life,” he added.
The service also featured Adeboye’s message on advocacy, where he described Jesus Christ as the ultimate advocate of believers before God, drawing from Romans 8:31.
The cleric explained that unlike earthly advocates, Jesus stands with believers even in moments of failure and accusation, offering redemption through His sacrifice.
Adeboye’s message comes amid growing concerns among Nigerians over economic hardship, insecurity and other pressures affecting daily life, with the cleric repeatedly encouraging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to faith.
