Group Targets 200,000 Votes For Makinde

A political pressure group, Grassroots 121 Action, has inaugurated 5,000 polling unit canvassers across Ekiti State as part of its mobilization effort for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 election.
The group announced a target of at least 200,000 votes for Makinde in Ekiti State and said its structure would cover all 2,445 polling units across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The inauguration took place in Ado Ekiti and brought together the newly appointed unit coordinators and assistant unit coordinators who are expected to lead the group’s grassroots activities across the state.
The Convener of Grassroots 121 Action, Lanre Fajuyi, charged the coordinators to take their responsibilities seriously and maintain direct contact with voters within their respective communities.
Fajuyi said the coordinators were expected to understand the concerns of residents in their communities and ensure that their activities reach every polling unit across Ekiti.
She said the 200,000-vote target would require sustained grassroots engagement and an organised structure rather than a one-off political gathering.
“We have set a clear target of a minimum of 200,000 votes in Ekiti State,” Fajuyi said, describing the target as a responsibility that would require organisation, commitment and sustained engagement at the grassroots.
She also urged the coordinators to operate within the law and respect the rights of voters and other political stakeholders throughout their mobilisation activities.
The group said its structure was designed to translate its support for Makinde into electoral participation through engagement at the polling unit level.
Grassroots 121 Action also criticized the economic policies of the administration of President Bola Tinubu and attributed what it described as increased hardship and declining purchasing power to some of the Federal Government’s policies.
The group further argued that more action was required to address poverty, unemployment, food insecurity and the rising cost of living, although those assessments represent the group’s political position rather than an independent assessment.
Fajuyi said the organisation’s support for Makinde formed part of what the group described as a wider conversation about the direction of Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group said its activities in Ekiti would include voter engagement, political awareness and participation as it develops its structure ahead of the election.
The mobilization comes as political activity around the 2027 presidential election increases, with different groups and political actors beginning to establish structures and seek support across states.
The 200,000-vote figure announced by Grassroots 121 Action is a mobilization target set by the structure and does not represent a forecast of the eventual election result.
