Osun Poll: Edo Govt Tells Davido to Focus on Winning Grammy

The Edo State Government has advised Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to focus on producing music that can win a Grammy award instead of seeking the intervention of United States President Donald Trump in the Osun State governorship election.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, made the remark during a press briefing in Benin City on Thursday.
Afegbua’s comment followed Davido’s appeal to Trump and the international community to monitor Saturday’s Osun governorship election over concerns about possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
In a post, Davido urged the US President to pay attention to developments in Osun State and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure their votes are respected.
Reacting, Afegbua described Davido’s action as “arrant nonsense” and criticised his comments on Governor Monday Okpebholo’s support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State.
The commissioner said Davido had moved from music into politics, adding that Nigerians who are supporting his music career are not members of any particular political party.
“Davido, who should be in the studio to record good music, has become a politician,” Afegbua said.
He also dismissed a result allegedly circulating online about Governor Okpebholo, describing it as fake.
Afegbua further criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke’s public dancing style, saying governance requires seriousness and urging Osun voters to support what he described as credible leadership.
The exchange comes ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, where Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election.
