Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Making ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ Promises on Transport Fares

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar on Thursday accused President Bola Tinubu of making what he described as “Yahoo Yahoo” promises to Nigerians.
Atiku recalled Tinubu’s pledge to reduce transportation costs from October 1 as part of measures to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal, alleging that the promise had not been fulfilled.
In his Independence Day address marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, Atiku criticised the President’s economic policies and described almost everything associated with his administration as “fake”.
He said Nigerian families were struggling under the weight of the administration’s economic policies.
“Bola, you have put the weight of Nigeria’s economy on a skateboard, families are struggling the journey, prosperity is going smoothly and it’s typical of yourself, everything is fake,” Atiku said.
He also questioned the President over his October 1 pledge to reduce transport fares, asking whether Nigerians had begun to benefit from the promised reduction.
“Before I forget, you promised Nigerians lower transport fares from October 1. Today is October 1. Did your promise miss the bus?” he asked.
Atiku further criticised Tinubu for attacking his proposal to make life more affordable, while questioning the number of transport routes where fares had actually fallen.
“You attacked my plan to make life affordable in your Independence Day speech, but you did not tell Nigerians which additional routes became cheaper today. Bola, was this a Yahoo Yahoo promise?” he said.
