Court of Appeal Rules in Favour of El-Rufai’s Right to Fair Hearing

The Court of Appeal has ruled in favour of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, affirming his right to a fair hearing.
The court set aside the Federal High Court’s judgment, which had proceeded without proper service of notice to El-Rufai.
El-Rufai had challenged the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s actions in a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed in 2024.
The appellate court criticized the lower court for hearing the case without giving El-Rufai a chance to respond.
The proceedings of July 18, 2024, were nullified, and the matter was remitted for reassignment to a different judge.

โJournalism is what we need to make democracy work.โ
ย
โNews is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress; all the rest is advertising.โ
ย
โJournalism can never be silent: that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.โ
ย
โThe duty of a journalist is to convey the truth as clearly and fully as possible.โย
ย
โGood journalism is about results. It is about affecting your community or your society in the most progressive way.โย
ย
โJournalism is printing what someone else does not want printed; everything else is public relations.โ
ย
โA free press is not a privilege but an organic necessity in a great society.โย
ย
โThe press was to serve the governed, not the governors.โย
ย
โJournalism without a moral position is impossible.โ
ย
โThe function of journalism is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.โย
