Guardiola Leaves City 

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will step down this summer, ending a ten-year reign that reshaped both the club and English football.

Guardiola, who joined City in July 2016, departs after winning 20 major trophies, making him the most successful manager in the club’s history.

A Friday announcement on the club website confirmed his departure.

Although leaving his managerial role, Guardiola will continue with the City Football Group as a Global Ambassador, providing technical advice and supporting collaboration across its clubs.

Reflecting on his time at City, Guardiola recalled his first interview with Noel Gallagher and expressed deep appreciation for the city, the club, and its people.

He described Manchester as a city built on hard work, recalling historic events, the resilience of the community, and personal experiences including the loss of his mother during COVID.

Guardiola emphasized that every moment and achievement with the club was for the fans, staff, and city, and encouraged everyone to celebrate their shared legacy.

He signed off his message by expressing gratitude, saying: “It has been so f****** fun. Love you all.”

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised Guardiola’s impact, highlighting his honesty, trust, innovation, and transformative contribution to Manchester City and football.

Chief Executive Ferran Soriano also lauded Guardiola’s greatness, dedication, and lasting legacy, noting that his influence will guide future players and managers.

During his tenure, Guardiola won six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, and three FA Community Shields, setting numerous records along the way.

He led City to the 2018 quadruple and the historic 2022/23 treble, followed by a fourth consecutive Premier League title, an unprecedented achievement in English football.

In his final season, Guardiola added the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, concluding his tenure after his 593rd and final match against Aston Villa.

He was named Premier League Manager of the Season five times, LMA Manager of the Year three times, and received an honorary degree from the University of Manchester in 2025.
