Trump Gives Iran 48-Hour Ultimatum to Reopen Hormuz Strait

President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding that it reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping or face the destruction of its energy infrastructure.

This came as Tehran launched its most devastating attack yet on Israel.

Trump’s deadline arrived just a day after he suggested he might “wind down” military operations after three weeks of war.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil passage, remains largely closed, and thousands of additional U.S. Marines are heading to the Middle East.

On Truth Social, Trump stated that the U.S. would strike Iranian power plants, starting with the largest, if Iran did not fully reopen the strait by 23:44 GMT on Monday.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, responded by saying Tehran’s restrictions only apply to vessels from nations involved in attacks against Iran, while neutral vessels would be allowed through.

In retaliation, Iran’s army warned it would target U.S. and allied energy infrastructure in the region.
