Fact Check: It’s a Lie — Fagbemi Didn’t Emerge as PDP Consensus Candidate For Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency

A report published by one blog named “Goalpoachernews”, claiming that Dr Akin Fagbemi has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Ibadan Northwest/Ibadan Southwest Federal Constituency is false and should be disregarded.

Findings reveal that the screening exercise conducted by the party did not produce any consensus candidate contrary to the claims in the report.

Party leaders who were present at the screening confirmed that the process ended without a final decision on any of the aspirants.

Sources within the party stated that four aspirants participated in the screening, but no agreement was reached to adopt any of them as a consensus flagbearer.

The party leaders, visibly furious, called the publication misleading and a false account of what transpired during the deliberations.

It was also gathered that the photograph being circulated alongside the report was taken during the screening session and was never meant to serve as evidence of endorsement or consensus.

Party insiders clarified that the image only captured a moment of sportsmanship amongst the aspirants during the exercise and should not be misinterpreted as a formal approval of any aspirant.

They also warned aspirants to caution their supporters against spreading unverified claims capable of creating tension within the party.

According to them, such premature reports could disrupt ongoing consultations and affect unity among stakeholders.

It was further gathered that discussions are still ongoing and no official position has been announced by the party leadership.

Party insiders stressed that the process remains open and subject to further engagements before any conclusion is reached.

They maintained that any report flying around that a candidate has already emerged as consensus at this stage is misleading, false, and inaccurate.

Members of the public have therefore been urged to rely on official communication from the party and disregard the report by Goalpoacher.

As of now, the consensus process remains inconclusive and no candidate has been formally endorsed.
