Police Arrest Man Over Fake Bandit Attack Video

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Qawiyu Oloyede, a resident of Sokoto Road, Atan-Ota, for posting a fabricated video of a bandit attack on social media aimed at creating fear and panic over a non-existent incident.
A video circulated on Sunday showed Oloyede being interrogated by police officers regarding the fake clip, drawing public attention to the arrest.
The suspect, who works as a tailor, admitted to the police that he created the false bandit attack video in a bid to gain followers on social media platforms.
He explained, “I created the fake bandit attack and posted it online to gain followers; the Fulani man I used is a herder who used to bring his cows to graze behind my shop, and he himself did not even want to participate in this act.”
Oloyede further stated, “I cannot read or write properly as I never went to school; it was my apprentice who wrote the message accompanying the video, and I have only made two such videos, one on Monday and another on Wednesday.”
The state police command, through spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Babaseyi added, “The suspect is currently with the SCID, and the authorities are examining the matter to ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken.”
