Thai Authorities Arrest Six Nigerians Over Alleged AI-Driven Romance Scam

Thai police have apprehended six Nigerian nationals accused of operating an elaborate online romance scam allegedly using artificial intelligence tools.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly employed AI-generated images and fake video calls to impersonate professionals, including pilots, doctors, and engineers, to defraud victims.

Reports indicate that the group mainly targeted Thai women on social media and dating platforms, creating false emotional relationships before demanding money.

One common ruse reportedly involved telling victims that a “package was stuck in customs” and requiring them to pay clearance or transfer fees to release it.

Authorities say the scheme appeared highly organized and financially motivated, with multiple victims identified during the probe.

Thai police confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the network and potential international connections.
