Yayi Pledges Ogun Infrastructure Push

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has pledged to place infrastructure development at the centre of his administration if elected governor in 2027.

Adeola made the commitment while unveiling his nine-point development agenda, tagged “ITESIWAJU for Ogun State,” with infrastructure listed as the first pillar of the proposed programme.

The APC candidate said his infrastructure policy would focus on improving transportation, expanding urban development and sustaining viable projects inherited from the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun rather than abandoning them for political reasons.

Adeola cited Lagos State as an example of how continuity between successive administrations could accelerate infrastructure development, arguing that projects should be assessed according to their benefits to residents rather than the political administration that initiated them.

Under the proposed agenda, Adeola said Ogun would establish a state-supported mass transit programme with organised terminals and routes connecting major centres such as Abeokuta, Ota, Sagamu and Ijebu.

He also proposed collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to develop commuter rail services that could link Abeokuta with Lagos while connecting Ogun’s industrial corridor to the wider Lagos rail network.

The APC candidate further proposed an “Ogun Ride” mobility platform for cars, tricycles and motorcycles, with plans to connect participating operators to health insurance, vehicle financing and cooperative schemes.

Adeola said his administration would also pursue new town development areas, particularly around rapidly expanding corridors and border communities, as part of efforts to reduce pressure on existing urban centres and provide planned residential areas with essential infrastructure.

He argued that Ogun’s proximity to Lagos and its growing industrial base presented an opportunity to develop residential and commercial communities that could reduce the need for residents to depend on Lagos for housing and other services.

The senator has also pointed to infrastructure projects he facilitated during his tenure in the National Assembly as evidence of his approach to grassroots development, with reported projects covering roads, schools, healthcare centres, markets, police facilities and town halls across Ogun.

Among the projects highlighted in Ogun West are roads in Imeko-Afon, Yewa North, Yewa South, Ipokia and Ado-Odo/Ota, alongside primary healthcare centres, police stations, markets and classroom blocks.

Earlier reports also listed projects such as Bisi Popoola Street in Ayetoro, Obaladi Palace Road in Afon, the Moriwi-Oke Agbede-Iwoye road network and Ona Odo Road in Ilara among the infrastructure interventions associated with Adeola’s representation.

Adeola recently donated ₦25 million and 50 solar-powered streetlights to support infrastructure development by the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area Zonal Community Development Committee.

The donation was made during the inauguration of the Obafemi Owode LGA Zonal CDC town hall along the Ofada-Owode Road, where Adeola described urban and regional development as a major component of his development agenda.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Adeola’s ITESIWAJU agenda also covers tourism and culture, economic empowerment, security and welfare, inclusive growth, women and youth development, agriculture, job creation, industrialisation, urbanisation and transparency.

He has also pledged to strengthen maintenance of public infrastructure, with agencies such as the Ogun State Public Works Bureau expected to play a greater role in maintaining roads and public facilities after completion.

The APC candidate said Ogun’s infrastructure expansion must be tied to economic growth, particularly through stronger connections between communities, industrial areas, agricultural centres, border corridors and major commercial routes.

He has therefore urged voters to assess the 2027 governorship candidates on the basis of their programmes and measurable commitments rather than personal attacks or political rhetoric.

Adeola also recently met President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, where he expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s support for major Ogun projects, including the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.

The infrastructure proposals form part of Adeola’s broader campaign message that Ogun requires continuity in viable development projects, stronger economic planning and sustained investment in infrastructure as the state prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
