Tinubu Expresses Shock Over Killing of Retired General Rabe Abubakar in Bandits’ Custody

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who was killed while being held in captivity by bandits in Katsina State.

The Presidency, in a statement, said the retired senior military officer was abducted while travelling to his hometown after a long and distinguished service career, while his wife remains in the custody of the abductors.

President Tinubu extended condolences to the family of the deceased, particularly his wife, the Katsina State Government, and members of the Nigerian Armed Forces over the loss.

The President also issued a strong warning to criminal elements, insisting that the Federal Government would not accede to any demands for the release of detained suspects in exchange for hostages.

“Bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror should surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State, as these opportunities for surrender will not last indefinitely and no mercy will be shown to those who shed innocent blood,” the President said, reiterating his earlier position made during his June 12 address.
