Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack has completed a 144-hour continuous reading of the Holy Bible, concluding a six-day endurance challenge as she seeks to set a new Guinness World Record for marathon Bible reading.

According to videos shared by friends and supporters on Instagram, she finished the attempt on Monday, June 29, after beginning on June 22 at the Novotel Hotel in Port Harcourt, with the exercise conducted under Guinness World Records guidelines that allow only brief breaks for essential needs such as rest, meals, and personal hygiene.

A member of Summit Bible Church in Port Harcourt, she embarked on the marathon reading as a faith-based initiative aimed at encouraging deeper engagement with Scripture and inspiring believers to dedicate more time to Bible study.

Her Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, said the initiative goes beyond record-breaking and is intended to strengthen spiritual devotion and elevate the importance of the Bible.

“It is a spiritual project designed to exalt God’s Word and inspire believers,” he said.

The journey toward the attempt reportedly began in June 2022, following years of preparation, endurance training, and spiritual discipline.

Her supporters, including family members, church members, and well-wishers, followed the effort both physically and online, with live recordings showing her reading continuously while digital timers tracked her progress.

The attempt comes after another Nigerian achievement in the same category, as Samson Ajao from Ibadan was officially recognised in 2024 by Guinness World Records for a 215-hour marathon reading, surpassing the previous 124-hour record set by Kyrgyzstan’s Rysbai Isakov in 2022.
