UI Enters New Era As Professor Peter Olapegba Emerges 14th Vice Chancellor

The University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria’s premier university, has appointed Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba as its 14th substantive Vice Chancellor following a competitive selection process involving eight candidates.

The appointment was announced by the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Adebisi Akande, after the council approved the recommendation of the Joint Council Senate Selection Board.

The selection process began months earlier in line with the provisions of the University of Ibadan Act, ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale.

The eight candidates were subjected to a rigorous assessment process, after which five were shortlisted for the final stage of interviews conducted by the Joint Council Senate Selection Board.
