PFIPC Scandal: Atiku Demands Tinubu’s Apology, Resignation Over Alleged Government Failures

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to apologise to Nigerians and resign from office over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.

Atiku, in a statement issued by his media team, accused the Tinubu administration of failing to provide clear explanations over how individuals and agencies allegedly became linked to the controversial council, which has been at the centre of a probe by the House of Representatives.

The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) argued that conflicting explanations from government institutions, including the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had deepened public concerns about transparency and accountability.

He claimed that the alleged inconsistencies raised questions about the administration’s handling of government processes and the level of oversight within key federal institutions.

The controversy surrounding PFIPC intensified after investigations by the House of Representatives revealed that some government agencies had been approached by individuals linked to the council despite questions over whether it was a legally recognised government body.

During the ongoing legislative probe, several ministries and agencies appeared before the House committee to explain their involvement or knowledge of the organisation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier told lawmakers that it had no official relationship with PFIPC, while the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) was summoned to clarify its role after questions emerged over security checks conducted on the organisation.

Atiku accused the President of bearing responsibility for what he described as administrative lapses within the government, insisting that leadership requires accountability whenever institutions fail.

He said the controversy had damaged public confidence and called on the administration to provide Nigerians with full disclosure on the matter.

However, supporters of the Tinubu administration have rejected the allegations, arguing that the President should not be held responsible for the actions of individuals or organisations whose activities are currently under investigation.

The Presidency has maintained that relevant agencies are investigating the matter and that anyone found to have engaged in wrongdoing would face the consequences.

The House of Representatives committee handling the PFIPC investigation is expected to continue inviting affected agencies and individuals as it seeks to determine how the council operated and whether any public officials failed in their responsibilities.
