Army Hunts Soldier Over Terror Link

The Nigerian Army has declared Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu wanted over allegations that he illegally sold and supplied military uniforms to terrorists and other criminal elements, raising fresh concerns over possible insider threats within the security system.
The soldier, who is attached to the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC), was accused of diverting military uniforms from official channels and making them available to criminal groups, according to a statement issued by the corps headquarters.
The Army said preliminary investigations linked Amutu to the alleged illegal distribution of military uniforms before he reportedly fled from his unit, prompting authorities to declare him wanted.
The statement revealed that Amutu was serving at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory before he allegedly abandoned his duty post on June 3, 2026, with efforts ongoing to locate and apprehend him.
The Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps urged members of the public with useful information about the soldier’s whereabouts to report to the nearest security formation or relevant authorities to assist in his arrest.
The military authorities warned that any personnel found aiding terrorists, bandits or other criminal groups through the supply of uniforms, equipment or other resources would face severe disciplinary action and prosecution.
The development comes amid ongoing security operations across Nigeria, where criminal groups have been accused of disguising themselves in military uniforms to carry out attacks, infiltrate communities and deceive residents.
Security analysts have repeatedly warned that insider collaboration remains a major challenge in the fight against terrorism and banditry, stressing the need for stronger monitoring and accountability within security institutions.
The Army has continued efforts to strengthen internal controls and prevent the diversion of military assets as operations against terrorists and other criminal networks intensify across the country.
