Igboho Moves To Reclaim Kwara Forests

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has vowed that his Iru Ekun Security Network will reclaim forests in Kwara State from bandits and other criminal elements operating in the areas.
Igboho made the declaration in Ilorin during the launch of the Iru Ekun Security Network, where he said the security outfit was established to complement government efforts and support conventional security agencies in tackling kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
The activist said criminal groups would no longer be allowed to use forests in Kwara and other affected areas as hideouts to carry out attacks, adding that the security initiative was aimed at restoring peace to vulnerable communities.
The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kwara, particularly Kwara South, where some traditional rulers and communities have faced attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits.
Reports indicated that some traditional rulers in Kwara South had sought the involvement of Iru Ekun Security Network in addressing security challenges in their communities, with members of the outfit conducting assessments in some affected areas.
Igboho said the initiative would work alongside government security agencies rather than operate as a replacement for existing security structures, as he reiterated his commitment to supporting efforts to protect residents.
The launch of Iru Ekun followed earlier statements by Igboho that the outfit was awaiting necessary approvals and would collaborate with the police, military and other relevant agencies to tackle criminal activities in forests across the South West and neighbouring areas.
Security experts have continued to stress the need for cooperation between community based security initiatives and government agencies to ensure that efforts against banditry and kidnapping remain within the framework of the law.
