Messi Double Makes History as Inter Miami Beat San Luis 4-2
Lionel Messi made history on Wednesday night after scoring twice to become the all-time leading goalscorer in Leagues Cup history as Inter Miami defeated Atlético San Luis 4-2 in their opening match of the 2026 tournament.
The Argentine forward took his tally to 14 goals in the competition, surpassing all previous records after delivering another impressive display for the Major League Soccer side.
Atlético San Luis took an early lead through David Rodríguez, but Messi quickly restored parity before scoring again later in the first half to put Inter Miami ahead.
Telasco Segovia and Micael also got on the scoresheet as Inter Miami completed the comeback with a strong attacking performance in front of their home supporters.
The brace was Messi’s first goals since returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup and further underlined his importance to Inter Miami as they begin their pursuit of another Leagues Cup title.
The victory gives Inter Miami a strong start to the tournament while extending Messi’s impressive record in the competition.
