Oyo LGs Working, Delivering Projects Without Interference — Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that local government councils across the state are fully functional and delivering tangible projects that directly impact residents, insisting that the councils are effectively carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
Makinde made the statement during the commissioning of a 2km road, a newly constructed fire service station, shops and an ultra modern trailer park at Bodija International Market in Ibadan, projects executed by Ibadan North Local Government.
The governor described the projects as evidence that local government administrations in Oyo State were delivering results, stressing that the councils had been allowed to operate without interference while focusing on improving infrastructure and services within their jurisdictions.
Makinde said the projects would boost commercial activities, improve the ease of doing business and contribute to strengthening the state’s economy, particularly through better facilities for traders and businesses operating within the market environment.
He commended the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Seun Olufade, for executing the projects and urged residents and market stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development across the state.
The governor also assured that more development projects would continue to be facilitated, noting that his administration remained committed to expanding infrastructure and improving living standards across Oyo State.
The newly commissioned trailer park was named after Balogun Oderinlo, a historic Ibadan figure, as part of efforts to recognise personalities associated with the city’s heritage.
Speaking during the event, Ibadan North Local Government Chairman, Seun Olufade, appreciated the governor for creating an environment that enabled councils to deliver projects, saying the developments would improve transportation, public safety and commercial activities within Bodija International Market.
A contractor involved in the projects, Adekunle Akinpelu, said the construction of the fire service station was particularly important because previous fire incidents in markets had resulted in major property losses and risks to lives.
Market leaders also commended the government for the projects, noting that the facilities would provide better convenience and safety for traders and customers while enhancing economic activities in one of Ibadan’s major commercial centres.
The commissioning was attended by top government officials, lawmakers, traditional leaders and representatives of various stakeholder groups, including the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, and other political office holders.
The development comes as Makinde continues to emphasise infrastructure delivery and institutional strengthening as key areas of his administration’s governance agenda.
