Obasanjo Suspends Guber Bid, Endorses Yayi

Iyabo Obasanjo has officially suspended her 2027 Ogun State governorship ambition after Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) was selected as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Monday, April 13, 2026, Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, confirmed that her decision was made following Yayi’s adoption at an APC caucus meeting in Abeokuta.
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” Obasanjo stated in her announcement.
She further noted, “Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration. To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support, and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength, and hope.”
Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, was confirmed as the party’s consensus candidate during the caucus meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta.
