Oyo Security Chiefs Pledge To Sustain Makinde’s Gains, Intensify Security Measures For Ember Months, Election

Heads of security agencies in Oyo State have vowed to sustain the security gains recorded under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde while developing stronger working relationships among the various agencies to keep the state safe and peaceful.

The commitment was made yesterday, Tuesday, during the Second Security Heads Meeting convened by the Special Adviser on Security to the Oyo State Governor, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro, popularly known as Bibire, at the Oyo State Security Trust Fund Boardroom, Onireke, Ibadan.

The meeting, which had in attendance the EA Security (CP Odukoya), brought together heads of relevant security agencies to assess developing security concerns in the state, compare notes on current developments and fashion out practical measures to keep residents, communities and businesses safe.

A major focus of the meeting was the Ember period, which traditionally comes with increased movement of people, commercial activities and social gatherings, as well as heightened security concerns associated with the period.

The security chiefs also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming elections, with particular attention to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property and ensuring that residents can go about their lawful activities without fear.

In view of these developments, the security chiefs identified possible pressure points and considered measures required to prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the period.

The security chiefs also agreed on the need for closer inter-agency cooperation, timely dessimination of intelligence and a stronger operational presence across communities as the state enters a peak period of social and economic activities.

Speaking, Bibire commended Governor Makinde for providing the political will and necessary support for security agencies to perform their duties, noting that the administration’s approach had continued to boost the capacity of the state to respond to emerging threats.

On the need to sustain the progress recorded so far in security, Bibire said the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde had demonstrated a clear commitment to making security a major pillar of governance and that the gains achieved through sustained investment and productive cooperation must not be allowed to slip.

He assured that the security architecture would continue to receive the attention required to protect the peace that residents of the state have enjoyed under the Makinde administration.

Reacting, the security chiefs commended Governor Seyi Makinde for giving security a prominent place in his administration and providing the support required for security agencies to discharge their responsibilities more effectively.

Bibire therefore urged the security chiefs to sustain the existing collaboration and keep the lines of communication open, stressing that the responsibility of protecting lives and property requires all security agencies to work as one team.

He reaffirmed Governor Makinde’s commitment to supporting security agencies to ensure that business owners can go about their lawful activities without fear, while residents and visitors can sleep with both eyes closed, confident in the safety of their lives and property.

The meeting ended with the security heads pledging to join hands and work collectively to preserve the peace and stability for which Oyo State has become increasingly known under Governor Makinde.

Agencies present at the meeting included the Army, Air Force, Police, DSS, Operation Burst, NDLEA, Immigration, FRSC, FFS, NCS, NSCDC, among others, all under one roof.
