Fagbenro-Bibire Celebrates 100 Days In Office As SA Security, Appreciates Governor Seyi Makinde, Otunba Seye Famojuro For Trust, Support

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, today celebrates his first 100 days in office with deep appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde and his political leader, Otunba Seye Famojuro, for the trust, support and confidence reposed in him to serve the good people of Oyo State, describing their backing as the wind beneath his wings to fly towards fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him.
Bibire, who was appointed by Governor Makinde on May 11, 2026 and assumed office the following day, said the first 100 days had given him the opportunity to contribute his immense quota to the administration’s efforts to keep Oyo State safe while working hand in hand with security agencies, communities and other stakeholders across the State.
He said the period had been a time of rolling up his sleeves to assess the security situation across the State, improve existing systems, build stronger ties among security agencies and respond effectively to developing security concerns.
He communicated particular appreciation to Governor Makinde for the confidence reposed in him, saying the support from the Governor had made it possible for his office to move quickly on several security matters within the short period.
“Mr Governor gave me the responsibility and the room to work, and I am grateful for that confidence, but I also understand that the responsibility comes with a duty to deliver, support the security agencies and protect the interest of the good people of Oyo State,” Bibire said.
He also thanked his political leader, Otunba Seye Famojuro, for the trust, support and guidance he has received since his appointment, confessing that Otunba’s backing has given him the support needed to keep his priorities in view and remain committed to the demands of his office.
According to Bibire, some of the major security developments recorded during his first 100 days in office included concerted efforts towards the release of abducted Oyo school children and teachers, as well as opening new doors through foreign security partnerships to expose the State to additional expertise, knowledge and global best practices in tackling security challenges.
He equally commended Governor Makinde for the acquisition of two surveillance aircraft to boost the State’s capacity to monitor difficult terrains and respond to security threats.
He also listed the inspection and improvement of existing State surveillance cameras as part of efforts to maximise monitoring and provide security agencies with better information for their operations.
The Special Adviser said solar powered 3D security lights had also been deployed at strategic locations across different communities to improve visibility and support night time security operations.
He added that security presence across Oke Ogun had received greater attention, with more engagements and operational measures put in place to improve the safety of residents in the area.
Bibire also pointed to the increased public awareness of the 24 hour emergency line, 615, urging residents to use the number whenever they notice suspicious activities or require urgent security intervention.
“Security information is useful only when it gets to the right people on time, and that is why we have continued to encourage residents to use 615, work with security agencies and report what they see rather than wait until a situation becomes serious,” he said.
He said the office had also worked towards the resuscitation of the Swift Respond Squad (SRS) and the project vehicle under the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, while attention had been given to the welfare, discipline, and accountability of personnel and staff under the Fund.
Another area of attention, according to him, was the regulation of private and public security outfits, as well as the strict enforcement of Executive Order 002, with the aim of ensuring that security operations and related activities are carried out within the law.
Bibire said the office had also worked to improve the relationship among security agencies in the State, including the introduction of a unified communication arrangement for security chiefs to make the dissemination of information and response to security situations faster.
On his activities within the period, Bibire said he inspected the Police Mobile Force Squadron permanent site and witnessed the commissioning of the Police Violent Crime Response Unit in Oyo State.
He also participated in the commissioning of the Nigerian Forest Security Service permanent site in Iseyin and supported the NSCDC Safe School Initiative as part of efforts to improve protection around schools and vulnerable areas.
Another major development, he said, was the historic joint meeting involving federal and State security chiefs, which provided an opportunity for the different agencies to sit together, examine security concerns, and agree on areas where their efforts could be better connected.
Bibire also held several stakeholder engagements across the State and attended security summits and sensitisation programmes in different parts of Oyo State, while conducting security operations and personnel assessments to gain a clearer picture of the security realities across the State.
He explained that the work of his office had stretched further than the four walls of meetings and security operations, as he had used the opportunity provided by his position to lend a helping hand to numerous youths across the State in accessing employment opportunities and other openings where possible.
“Part of what I have tried to do is to remember that security is also about giving the youths something positive to hold on to, because a young person with a legitimate opportunity is less vulnerable to those who want to recruit him into crime. So, wherever I can help a young person get a job or find a lawful means of earning a living, I will continue to do so,” he said.
The Special Adviser said the work done in the first 100 days should be seen as the beginning of a larger assignment, noting that there is still much more ground to cover in the optimization of intelligence networks, improving response time, supporting security personnel and building stronger bridges between security agencies and residents.
He said, “There is still a lot to do, and I am not going to sit here and say everything has been solved, but we have started from the right place, we have identified areas that need attention, and with the continued support of His Excellency and cooperation from our security agencies, we will keep moving forward.”
He said he would continue to align his efforts with the security agenda of Governor Makinde, while keeping the door open to practical ideas and workable solutions from security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders who have a stake in keeping Oyo State safe.
Bibire said he remained grateful to the security chiefs, officers and men of the various agencies operating in Oyo State for their cooperation and sacrifices, adding that the gains recorded so far were the result of joint efforts rather than the work of one office.
He concluded by assuring the people of Oyo State of his continued commitment to the assignment entrusted to him by Governor Makinde and pledged to continue working with all relevant stakeholders to keep the wheels of security moving, uphold the government’s primary assignment of protecting lives and property, and ensure that residents of the Pacesetter State can continue to sleep with both eyes closed.
