Iran Rejects U.S. Demand To Move Uranium Stockpile Abroad

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has reportedly prohibited the transfer of the country’s enriched uranium stockpile outside Iran, rejecting a key demand from the United States during ongoing nuclear talks.
The decision is expected to escalate tensions in the fragile negotiations between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear programme.
U.S. officials had urged Iran to move or surrender its enriched uranium stockpile abroad to prevent the development of nuclear weapons capability.
Iranian authorities, however, insist the uranium is intended solely for peaceful civilian and research purposes.
Officials in Tehran reportedly fear that relinquishing the stockpile could weaken the country’s strategic position amid ongoing regional security concerns involving Israel and the United States.
The disagreement is considered one of the main obstacles in the current round of nuclear negotiations and wider diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Regional mediators are still reportedly attempting to keep discussions alive despite rising mistrust between both sides.
