Ember & Election: SA Security Bibire Meets Operation Burst DG, Seeks Stronger Partnership Against Crime

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of Operation Burst at his office in Ibadan, where they explored practical measures to improve the state’s response to crime and keep Oyo safer as the Ember and election periods get into full swing.

Bibire, speaking, described the visit as an opportunity to appreciate the commendable strides of Operation Burst while keeping the partnership between the Office of the Special Adviser on Security and the agency on a stronger footing, as both sides continue to work hand in hand to keep the security machinery of Oyo State in top gear.

He said, “We are here to appreciate the good work you are doing and to seek your continued support as we look at how we can work hand in hand, build on existing efforts, and keep the ball rolling in improving security across Oyo State, given the heightened security demands of the Ember period and election season.”

Responding, the Director General welcomed Bibire and his team, saying his professional background made it easier for both sides to understand one another and work together.

He explained that Operation Burst was established about 15 years ago through an executive pronouncement by the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, adding that he assumed office seven years ago and later became the first Director General appointed under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

He said Governor Makinde had, in his wisdom, created the office of Director General to provide stronger leadership and serve as a link between Operation Burst and the state government.

According to him, the main duty of Operation Burst is to prevent crime and criminal activities, while its personnel are expected to respect human rights, obey the law and follow approved rules of engagement.

He added that Operation Burst works with the Police, DSS, NSCDC and other security agencies in carrying out its duties, revealing that the partnership had produced useful results.

He appreciated Governor Makinde for the support given to the agency, particularly the provision of operational allowances and logistics, saying the assistance had helped its personnel perform their duties.

The Director General, however, appealed for improved support in the areas of welfare and other operational challenges, noting that addressing these concerns would go a long way in oiling the wheels of their operations and keeping the team in the best position to deliver.

As the Ember period approaches, he called for early joint patrols and increased visibility, especially around banks and other places where criminal activities could rise as economic activities increase.

On technology, he recommended the installation of real time security and protective devices at strategic locations across the state to help prevent crime and support faster response when incidents occur.

Bibire, while thanking the Director General for the warm reception and the useful ideas relayed during the meeting, assured him that the issues raised would receive the necessary attention.

He said his office would continue to seek the support of Operation Burst and other security agencies as part of efforts to improve the security of lives and property in Oyo State.

The visit ended with an agreement to maintain closer contact between both offices and explore practical areas where the state’s security efforts can be further improved.

After the meeting, the Director General presented the Oyo Security Adviser with a plaque as a token of appreciation for his visit.
